Half Moon Bay - August 8-10
“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” Is that Mark Twain?
While we were bracing ourselves for a chilly competition, I should say that the weather cooperated for three days and sun decided to peek through the clouds in the afternoons. The pictures below do not do justice to the mild temperatures we experienced.
Friday started particularly light and one had to be lucky to be able to reach with enough speed the weather mark tucked in close to shore under Pillar Point. There was just nothing to work with at times and being stuck there was no fun. The afternoons brought some breeze that allowed some to go on the wire.
It was Kiersten Vance that literally stole the show for Syd Corp series with a very impressive performance. I thought I was doing well at first but never got the consistent score that makes you a winner. Bravo Kiersten: You looked really good going into the championship!
Terry Gallagher went into the championship on Saturday, flustered by the weak breeze of Friday. He had Barrett Sprout for crew so all the ingredients were there for a good showing, but if only the breeze could pickup! Terry was rewarded by better breeze on the afternoon Saturday and by Sunday, he finally got the prize he had coveted but eluded him for so many years. His strategy (or was that Barrett's?) to have our former champion as crew worked out!
Thank you Race Committee for well run races and thank you Kristy Durazo for running the show!
